What is the goal of this project?
When was this project started in San Cristobal?

Thank you for the questions. Here are my answers first in English, and then in Spanish:

#1. What is the goal of this project? The primary goal of the project is to demonstrate that information and communications technologies can accelerate human capacity development, especially in the area of education. In the energy monitoring program specifically, students are monitoring energy in order to determine the potential to reduce energy demand and consumption on San Cristobal. This information will be utilized by engineers in the United States and Italy to design the new renewable energy system for San Cristobal which is now in the planning stages. The skills they are learning can be applied to other economic development activities in the future, such as creating a new infomation economy for the Galapagos.

#1. ¿Cuál es la meta de este proyecto? La meta fundamental del proyecto es demostrar que las tecnologías de información y de comunicaciones pueden aceleran el desarrollo humano de la capacidad, especialmente en el área de la educación. En el programa en Colegio Ignacio Hernandez específicamente, los estudiantes están supervisando energía para determinar el potencial de reducir demanda energética y la consumición en San Cristobal. Esta información será utilizada por los ingenieros en los Estados Unidos y la Italia para diseñar el nuevo sistema de energía reanudable para San Cristobal que ahora está en las etapas de planeamiento. Las habilidades que están aprendiendo se pueden aplicar a otras actividades del desarrollo económico en el futuro, tal como crear una nueva economía del infomation para las Islas Galápagos.

#2. When was the project started in San Cristobal?

In February and March seven students were trained before the beginning of the school year in April. The program then officially started on April 6th. It will continue until December. We expect to publish the student's final work in later November.

En febrero y marzo siete estudiantes los entrenaron antes del principio del año en abril. El programa entonces comenzó oficialmente de abril el 6. Continuará hasta diciembre. Querimos publicar el trabajo final de los estudiantes en un noviembre.

#3. What is the role of each student? What do they need to do?

Each student is expected to learn how to use computer equipment and software, to collect and process data, to analyze the data, and to inform the community about their findings. They will need to monitor energy using special equipment, including WATTS-UP energy monitors, to evaluate the performance of electric appliances. All students will contribute to the final report.

#3. ¿CUAL ES EL TRABAJO QUE CADA ALUMNO DEBE REALIZAR?

Cada estudiante aprenda cómo utilizar el equipo informático y software, comprender los datos, evaluar los datos, analizar los datos, e informar a la comunidad sobre sus resultados. Necesitarán monitor energía usando el equipo especial, incluyendo monitores de la energía de WATTS-UP, para evaluar el funcionamiento de aplicaciones eléctricas. #4. When are you planning on coming to Santa Cruz to work with the students?

I want to come to Santa Cruz in either July or August. I do not have the specific date. I would like to stay in Santa Cruz for one week in order to work with both teachers and students to plan a project for the next school year.

Deseo venir a Santa Cruz en julio o agosto. No tengo la fecha específica. Quisiera estar en Santa Cruz para una semana para trabajar con los profesores y los estudiantes para planear un proyecto por el año escolar próximo.

Is this a long-term or short-term project?

#5. This is a long-term project. It will take many years to develop the skills for the Galapagos to make a transition to an information economy. I hope to be working with schools in the Galapagos for many years.

Esto es un proyecto a largo plazo. Tomará muchos años para desarrollar las habilidades para que las Islas Galápagos hagan una transición a una economía de la información. Espero trabajar con las escuelas en las Islas Galápagos por muchos años.

#6. To carry out this project, you have funding from other countries? Where exactly does the funding come from?

The funding is coming from the e7. (See the e7 Website.) American Electric Power (US), HydroQuebec and Ontario Power Generation (Canada), ENEL (Italy), and EcoSage (US) are now providing the funding. I am now reseaching other resources from other foundations in the US.

#6. PARA REALIZAR ESTE PROYECTO TUVO DONaCIONES DE OTROS PIASES?
